The Torque is Galvan's flagship and one of the few reels on the wall genuinely machined start to finish in the United States — designed, cut, and assembled by the Galvan family in Sonora, California, out of 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum bar stock.
Nine sizes, five colors, and a drag that has been refined for two decades rather than reinvented every season.

Colors: black, clear, green, blue, burnt orange. Not every color is stocked in every size — check the dropdown for current availability and pricing.
Note the line ratings. Galvan rates the smaller sizes across two line weights. A T-4 covers a 4 or 5 weight, a T-5 covers 5 or 6. If you are balancing a 5 weight rod, either the T-4 or T-5 works — the T-4 sits lighter, the T-5 gives you more backing and a faster retrieve.
The drag — read this if you fish salt
The Torque drag is a carbon fiber and Ertalyte TX compression system, and it is excellent: smooth startup, wide adjustment range through the microTune knob, and simple enough that it will outlive you. It is not a sealed drag. Galvan does not claim it is.
For freshwater and normal flats use that is a non-issue — rinse it and it lasts decades. But if you are wading deep in salt, fishing from a skiff that takes spray, or you have a habit of dunking reels, look at The Grip. Same Galvan build with a fully sealed Water Lock hub and hybrid ceramic bearings. It costs more and it is the right tool for that job.
Details worth knowing
- Spool interchange: Torque and Rush Light spools swap in the same size. A T-5 spool fits an R-5 LT and vice versa. Handy if you run both.
- Spool release: P.B.R. push-button, no tools
- Retrieve change: flip the pawl to switch left or right hand — no tools, no parts to lose
- Finish: Type II anodize, saltwater safe
- Arbor: true large arbor, fully ported frame, spool and handle, counterbalanced
- Spey weight kits available in sizes 8, 10 and 12 — 1 oz each, for balancing two-handed rods
Warranty: lifetime to the original owner on parts and workmanship, with proof of purchase from an authorized dealer. We are one. Out-of-warranty repairs are available directly through Galvan at a reasonable cost — this is a reel you will hand down.
Galvan does not sell direct — only through authorized dealers. Come handle one at the shop. Ed's Fly Shop, 432 E Main St, downtown Montrose, Colorado.
